What Is HomeLink Remote System?

You can’t program a garage door opener without a remote controller. But you can use your remote transmitter to reset the garage door opener buttons inside your car. Or you can use an electronic keypad to control the door without a remote. For keypads, press the arrow buttons and the program buttons simultaneously.

As long as there is interior power, you can use homelink to open the garage door. However, if you didn’t have homelink you would have a garage door opener to open the door and that is an even bigger security risk as someone can take the remote and open the door when you aren’t around.

How do I program a second garage door opener remote?

Press and release the LEARN button on the overhead garage door opener unit. The learn indicator light will glow steadily for 30 seconds. Within this 30 second time period, press and hold the button on the hand-held remote. Next, release the button when the overhead opener unit’s lights blink.

Registered. Even many older garage door openers were use intellicode for their transmitters. In order to get them to work properly, you have to first program the transmitter into your HomeLink per the owner’s manual. You will then have to follow the directions to programming your garage door opend.

Just want to clarify that you DO NOT need a remote to program homelink. You can use the “learn” button that’s located on the door opener itself.

Step 1: If you press your chosen button and the LED light is red, then your remote is already set to program and you may skip the rest of step 1. If the LED light is green then hold the button you’ve chosen until both a red and green LED light are shown together.
